BOOSTER high pressure pump

The booster pump

Among other things, pellets are produced from the polymer manufactured in the previous process stages. The pellets can be produced in different ways. As a rule, two processes are used. Strand pelletizing and underwater pelletizing. In both processes, pellets are produced as a basis for further processing.

Compensation of pressure losses

The high-pressure pump of the BOOSTER series takes over the volume flow of the discharge pump. As a rule, the applied pressure ratios of the discharge pump are not sufficient to compensate for the resulting pressure losses of the pelletizer. For the production of high-quality pellets, a corresponding pressure is required. In many cases, several pelletizers are fed from one plant. For an even distribution and to increase the pressure, BOOSTER pumps are required for each pelletizer.

Landscape

High pressure for best product quality

In order to achieve the best possible product quality for the pellets, many different factors are important. The processed polymer is pumped out of the melt reactor by the POLY series polymer discharge pump into the further process flow. To filter out any impurities in the melt, a filter unit is installed downstream of the discharge pump. This is where the melt is cleaned. However, due to the fine mesh of the screens, there is a pressure loss in the melt stream. In order to produce the desired pellets in the granulation unit, the BOOSTER pump has to bring the melt flow from the screen changer back up to the required process pressure of around 220 bar.

Features high pressure pump

  • Pump type
  • Gearbox
  • Spring loaded frame
  • Cardan shaft

  • Pump type BOOSTER series

The required process pressure for pelletizing and pellet production is achieved by the BOOSTER gear pumps. It compensates for pressure fluctuations and pulsation of the melt flow from the screen changer.

  • Getriebe

Due to the limited space available in the plant, the pump was configured with a drive unit in such a way that the smallest possible installation space can be optimally utilized. The motor is installed below the pump and the cardan shaft. Power is transmitted via the gearbox at the rear of the installation.

  • Spring loaded frame

To compensate for plant vibrations and expansion due to heat, the pump is installed on a spring frame. This ensures vibration-free operation and relieves the strain on the piping.

  • Cardan shaft

The cardan shaft compensates for height differences that can occur due to thermal expansion and transmits the power from the gearbox to the drive shaft of the pump.
